The Timeware Software BabyName Program allows parents to individually, and separately, choose the names they prefer. The system then combines the choices of both parents into one simple list.
The program has been written to reduce discussion (arguments) and helps both parents quickly identify the names that both parents agree upon.
Use of the program provides a method of choosing the names each parent likes without the pre-occupation of the meaning of the name (although the derivations and meanings are included within the system after you have chosen the names). The use of the program normally only takes about 30 minutes per parent. Compare this to the amount of time parents normally spend reading name books before reaching a decision.
Having seen the program used many times it still astounds me that with over 4,000 names to choose from each parent will only choose about 20 to 30 names they actually like and from the selections of each parent about 5 of these names will be selected by both parents. The end result is a small list, printed out for your examination, from which both parents can select the final name or names, in the knowledge the names on the list are names they both like.
